The reason Planet Earth supports life is that it is a source of Air and Water. It is quite obvious that Food is also as important as Oxygen and Water. For our physical and mental development, growth and survival food is the source for essential energy and nourishment. Unfortunately, these days the importance of food has greatly been undermined. Ready-to-go fast food and junk food has resulted in serious health issues like heart diseases, unbalanced cholesterol levels and blood pressure, obesity and nutrition deficiency which leads to bone weakness, low energy levels and poor skin and hair health.

Foods that are delicious and also healthy are a vital choice for a good life. Following is the list of such great foods which will improve the quality of your health and give you increased levels of energy and stamina.

  1. Grains

Grains are known as staple food. They provide the body with macronutrients, which means nutrients the body requires in large amounts. They are the main source of energy for the day. Maize, Rice, Wheat and Corn are some examples. These grains contain the very essential energy sources in the three parts of their structure: Bran, Germ and Endosperm.

Bran contains fiber, minerals and antioxidants.

Processed and refined food lacks the nutrients whole grain foods have to offer. In the ‘process’, grains are ripped off of the healthy nutrients and additional flavors, sugars and artificial preservatives are added. These foods are crackers, refined pasta and canned pasta sauces and cake or brownie mixes. These foods are quicker to digest which means that they provide a lot of calories and help the body burn only a few. This is the main reason of weight gain. Bakery items like pastries, cookies and cakes are also very high on the starch and sugar levels. An occasional slice might not be as harmful but consuming these foods on a daily basis can lead to diabetes, heart diseases and obesity. White bread is also not recommended to be eaten in large amounts as it is made from starch and refined wheat which is low in fiber and nutrients and high in sugar levels.

Frying or broiling a food is the unhealthiest way to cook. They are stripped off of all the nutrients and minerals and are also left with the calories and get extremely dehydrated. Under high heat, a lot of unhealthy chemical compounds also get added to the food.

To conclude, food is important for our sustenance and the ‘right food’, even more so. Replace processed food with organic, whole grain foods. Make sure that the products like cheese have more of dairy content than artificial ingredients. If you want to eat processed meat for example pepperoni or sausages, make sure that you get them from a butcher in their purest form. Replace fizzy drinks with fresh homemade juices. Avoid buying ready to cook cake or brownie batters and make your own healthier desserts.  Healthy foods will improve the quality of your mental, physical and social life and give you energy to live life to its fullest.
