Most of the free time I would normally devote to posting has been spent working on our office's new site. I think the results are well worth the effort, but click the screenshot to see for yourself:

My design was the last in a long line of remixes by everyone in the office. Basically, I poured the trendy web 2.0 juice on top of everyone else's designs Patrick H. did the really kick-ass blur in the flash menu. I find myself playing with that for far too long. Check it out, and tell us what you think. Now that the site's done, I'll be posting the promised "beginner" wordpress tutorials starting later this week.

I started my new job on Tuesday.

there, that sounds better than anything I might have written about my life in the past two weeks. I lost my job mid-august, hence the recent drought of posts. I certainly wasn't planning on staying at the job for much longer, I just wish it could have ended differently. For the first two days I was actually happy, since I'd been planning to leave once I finished my IDP hours. Job hunting isn't happy work though, and the anxiousness set in. I managed to loose a good 10 pounds, on nerves alone.
For the past couple weeks I've been pimping my resume and renderings all around town. I managed to land two job offers in the space of a couple days. The first one was with the first promising firm I'd seen post on craigslist since I started looking. Unfortunately, when the principal called to ask me to come in and start work, he asked me to come in on a contract basis. You know, give him a fixed price for a set of permit drawings. If things worked out, then he'd hire me on full time.

That freaked me out a bit, since up until now, I've never done any freelance work. It's not that I couldn't make a reasonable estimate of how long it would take, and how much my time is worth. It's that I don't really know how to keep myself from getting screwed over.

But the job sounded like exactly what I wanted, so I showed up at 8:30 ready to negotiate, and get to work. Except he had plans for things to happen in the opposite order. I set off drawing, but while he ran off to meetings, I got a call from the other place I'd interviewed the day before. It's a temp job as well, but this one is through an agency, so I get a regular hourly paycheck. A little less risk is ok, I think, and the firm is definately comparable. 2 days down, so far so good.
