<li>Last.fm released their facebook widget. I really like facebook as a place for real-name-real-life type interactions. I'm not so sure about it as a "platform", Since not all my web profiles are as real.</li>
<li>they also finally <a href="http://blog.last.fm/">started a blog</a>.</li>
<li>which led me to find their solution for <a href="http://tools.microformatic.com/transcode/atom/hatom/http://www.last.fm/user/sunburntkamel/shoutbox">subscribing to my shoutbox</a>: <a href="http://microformats.org/wiki/hatom">hAtom markup</a> (mad props for microformat adoption). They're linking to <a href="http://tools.microformatic.com/">an hAtom converter</a> on microformatic.com, which you could also use to subscribe to, say, <a href="http://tools.microformatic.com/transcode/atom/hatom/http://archgfx.net/blog">this blog</a>!</li>
<li>I also found out that last.fm has been bought by CBS. i have a hard time imagining this not leading further to further agglomeration of the internet into old mass media. the only way i can imagine that not happening is that audioscrobbler is still open source, so using <a href="http://amarok.kde.org/">amaroK</a> or <a href="http://www.songbirdnest.com/">songbird</a> will definately not submit content-type information (information about the source of the song, i.e. mp3's). (the official client may now be suspect, since CBS does also own a record company which is a <a href="http://riaaradar.com/search.asp?searchtype=ManufacturerSearch&amp;keyword=Cbs" title="<acronym title='Recording Industry Association of America'><span class='caps'>RIAA</span></acronym> radar">member of the <acronym title='Recording Industry Association of America'><span class='caps'>RIAA</span></acronym></a>).</li>
<li>The viability of their business model, however, has drawn in competitors. previously, i had little to no interest in <a href="http://ilike.com/user/sunburntkamel">iLike</a>, <a href="http://virb.com/something_new">virb</a>, et al, but the submitting my play count to the <acronym title='Recording Industry Association of America'><span class='caps'>RIAA</span></acronym> seems like a really bad idea.</li>
</ul>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I'm still not really getting how matt can use the word 'love', and <a href="http://wordpress.com/blog/2007/02/26/new-theme-mistylook/#comment-16736">pull stunts like this</a>. I'm sure it'll be passed off as a simple misunderstanding, but when you do it this many times in a row, it's patently obvious that it isn't accidental. perhaps if he answered emails, he might have less trouble with people having to post his mistakes in public.</p>
<p>right on time, <a href="http://www.lessig.org/blog/archives/003712.shtml">mr. lessig posts</a> a <a href="http://labs.creativecommons.org/freedomslicense/">beta of a CC-license generator</a> that includes some helpful microformats: <code>a rel="cc:attributionURL" property="cc:attributionName"</code>, which will remove more of the plausibility from matt's denials.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.archgfx.net/blog/index.php/themes/disconnected/" title="get the update!"><img src="http://www.archgfx.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/versioning.jpg" alt="updated version" /></a></p>
<p>With the arrival of wordpress 2.1, <a href="http://www.archgfx.net/blog/index.php/2006/geek/wpw-linkslist#comment-1767">andy's comment</a> about database tables has finally come around and bitten disconnected and the links list. I added version 1.1.1r2 to the <a href="http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2007/01/27/new-wordpress-21-theme-compatibility-list/">list of incompatible themes</a>, which made me very sad. i haven't updated the theme in forever, so even though it's just a maintenance release, there are a lot of changes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Disabled the linkslist widget for anyone running 2.1 or above. (it's still there for anyone on wordpress 2.0.x) It's been removed entirely from the non-widgetized sidebar. if you're not using widgets, and not upgrading to wordpress 2.1, don't bother upgrading.</li>
<li>added <a href="http://microformats.org/wiki/hatom">hAtom</a> support (i think. there's no validator, and i'm not sure how to check it against a schema)</li>
<li>added <a href="http://www.smackfoo.com/chronology/2006/10/07/revisionism-of-a-theme/">smackfoo's javascript</a></li>
<li>added a version check script, from <a href="http://ceejayoz.com/2006/02/06/your-new-version-is-ready-or-wordpress-update-notifications/">ceejay's tutorial</a> (in case my hAtom support isn't right), like the screenshot up above<a href="http://ceejayoz.com/2006/02/06/your-new-version-is-ready-or-wordpress-update-notifications/"><br />
</a></li>
<li>fixed a bug in the tag page (props <a href="http://nopalfrente.com/">Pepe</a>)</li>
<li>renamed the archive template to match other themes (you'll have to switch the page template if you're upgrading, but if you're switching themes, it will probably be the same as your archive template).</li>
<li>added a meta description tag to the head of the document</li>
<li>added chris pearson's <a href="http://www.pearsonified.com/2006/12/the_simplest_most_effective_seo_move_you_can_make.php"><acronym title='Search Engine Optimization'><span class='caps'>SEO</span></acronym> friendly titles</a></li>
<li>added some <a href="http://www.plaintxt.org/2007/01/22/special-classes-in-themes/">standard classes to use in posts</a></li>
<li>added the <a href="http://boren.nu/archives/2007/01/07/custom-image-header-api/">custom header option</a>.</li>
</ul>
<p>so head off to the <a href="http://www.archgfx.net/blog/index.php/themes/disconnected/">theme page</a>, and download! Oh, and a small favor. if anyone is hosted with <a href="http://dreamhost.com">dreamhost</a>, please, contact their tech support and ask them to upgrade the version on their servers. i can't, since i'm not hosted by them.</p>
