I haven't been exactly forthcoming with posts this month. I haven't been lazy, though. Most of the free time I would normally devote to posting has been spent working on our office's new site. I think the results are well worth the effort, but click the screenshot to see for yourself:

My design was the last in a long line of remixes by everyone in the office. Basically, I poured the trendy web 2.0 juice on top of everyone else's designs Patrick H. did the really kick-ass blur in the flash menu. I find myself playing with that for far too long. Check it out, and tell us what you think. Now that the site's done, I'll be posting the promised "beginner" wordpress tutorials starting later this week.

There's no reason I should still be posting about wordpress.com. I guess I'm just annoyed that I ever thought it was a good place to blog/journal/post. The exclusion of anyone who's not a child or a christian has reached a fever pitch. They've just released the following guidelines1:

No inappropriate titles. Do we suppose this means that if you're posting about the really hot sex you had last night, you should make sure the title is "fluffy kittens for everyone"?

No profanity or nudity. This means that my cuss-like-a-sailor-because-it-makes-people-respond-not-just-think-about-it tactic is definitely outlawed. I hate to think what it means for ICHC.

No extraneous categories. I'm sure my 2.0 category was causing serious consternation. let alone "cult-of-matt". In fact, only the officially sanctioned categories are allowed. Anything else and you'll be relegated to the dustbin, because then you won't drive traffic to our ad-laden tag pages.

And really, you should only post to one category at a time. nevermind that wordpress.com categories can't be used as categories, since the links lead out of your blog2. if you use categories as tags (meta information), you're definately going to be banned

Basically, if you're not an aspiring member of the web 2.0 a-list-aspiring echo chamber, you're not welcome on wordpress.com. fantastic. glad i left. now I'm off to find the 11 most relevant tags for this post.

taken to their logical extreme, with commentary

do I really need to explain what a horrific user experience it is to click on someone's category in post meta and find no posts at all?

I'm not voting for ron paul. not just because i'm not voting republican. In the past week, i've recieved half a dozen blog spam comments mentioning his stance on the iraq war, and then linking to his site. Unlike most of the spam comments i recieve, it has a believable name, and proper grammar.

For a second, i thought it might be an overzealous supporter, leaving a real comment on an unrelated entry (i delete those, but don't feed them to akismet). Then I looked at the post the comment was attached to: urbanlab. The post is unremarkable, save one thing:

It has the lowest post ID on my blog. Only a bot would dig through my blog that way. any human would have commented on the most recent post.

So as for the question of whether Ron Paul is spamming digg? I have no doubt that he is, and that his "supporters" are using bots to do it, thinking they're doing him a favor. Although this does put me in the awkward position of agreeing with rush limbaugh.

web 2.0, meet political graft. This will be the year that online political polls show up DOA. unless they start feeding poll results to akismet.

If Paul was gay, I would hate christianity less. Then again, without the misogyny and homophobia, would it even have survived this long?

No wonder people steal music:

So... I guess as a reward for being a "true fan" you get ripped off.

I love Trent Reznor. Although i have to say, the EURO max single is one of those things that people seem to like getting abused over.

WordPress 2.0 was so numbered to go along with the Web 2.0 buzz, but it lacked tags, which were the hallmark of web 2.0. it will be greatly amusing when the version that includes tags bumps the version number to 3.0. Web 3.0, of course, is supposed to be the semantic web. Surely, then, wordpress 4.0 will give us the semantics which will be dated by then?

98% of wordpress blogs are vulnerable. 50 is a small sample size, but there's no doubt in my mind that the figure is accurate. If upgrading weren't such a PITA, mightn't the number be lower, though?
