Line
The choice of pathway. A chaotic system that allows the visitor freedom in navigation Rules are both broken and followed.
The stairs govern the speed and rhythm of passage. By moving across stair systems, landings are created and passage granted deeper into the project.
Materials define the game sensually (visual and auditory). Vision passes through wood and glass stairs to be impeded by concrete. The three elements create a range of Sounds as multiple users gain passage.
Plane
a reinterpretation of the ideas of the line project. The multiple pathways return, this time accompanied by a spiraling motion and a lack of discernable direction. Yet the user is restrained at the borders until directed to the final stage. Wood and concrete continue as materials. Excavation is introduced here which will be continued in the next phase.
Volume
The retreat nestles two volumes, public and private. The path through the first two landscapes wraps around the gallery and terminates overlooking the marsh. A second space, accessed from without, borrows itself into the ground, and curves back on itself to overlook the marsh. The two spaces define each other, maintaining separation by level changes and glass division. The artist's space acknowledges the audience but shrinks from it, providing seclusion for the inhabitants
