Renzo Piano
Kansai Airport by Renzo Piano was chosen as an example of a prefabricated structure. The massive airport has numerous examples of innovative structural design. Of note was the fact that each structural component was a custom fabrication. There were two primary areas of study with regard to the airport, the flying wing and the roof trusses. Finally a study of the airports skin was done to understand how to blend strucutre and aesthetics. Unlike other studies kansai is a technical project meant to yield technical answers.02
