Competition Entries

the Sandbox Designs Competition is now closed, and Scott's requested that we ping the closing post, so that all the designs show up in one place, until the live preview is ready. So here are my entries:

Promised Land

Promised Land Teaser

Walk in the Shadows

Walk in the Shadows Teaser

Both designs are packaged as themes, so just install them like you would any other wordpress theme.

almost.

If you're running wordpress 2.2.1, there's a bug that's fixed, but hasn't been released yet. you'll need to replace /wp-includes/theme.php with the patched theme.php (linked directly to wordpress' bug tracker, right click and save target as).

Packaging Designs as Themes:

In my opening comment in style.css, I have an extra line that says Template: Sandbox, which makes wordpress use my stylesheet (and not sandbox's), with sandbox's template files. There's a longer explanation in the codex. Being a standalone theme makes it easier for users to install my designs (provided they've already installed sandbox).

It also lets me do some really cool stuff. I can't add more templates, but i can include a functions.php, which allows me to add widgets, theme options, custom header API, update notifications, or anything else, including hooking a credit into the footer, if I wanted.  Check it out in Walk in the Shadows, which uses a custom header.

Excellent work as always, Adam. You have definitely earned your über-Sandbox-master moniker. :)

I think Akismet gobbled up my prior comment.

I said, blah, blah, excellent designs, etc., etc. :)

Kidding. I said you had earned your über-Sandbox-user moniker. Seriously. Excellent work, Adam. Your graphics are really rich and textured. It’s a big part of what defines your work. :)

    thanks, both of you
scott, i’m not sure why the first comment didn’t look like it was approved… maybe it’s a wp-cache issue?
i’m using akismet inside spam karma, so even if akismet spanks you, you’re not doomed.

I loved “The Promised Land” which means not coming from a non design type, but it doesn’t work with all the crap I have although I’m still playing with it on my local host.
In IE the top bars looks different for some reason. It’s probably my favorite off all the themes and makes me wish I could stay away from widgets. :(

    Thanks!

which version of IE? I’ve permanently given up on IE6, as IE7 is listed as a critical update. In the menu bar, in IE7, instead of showing “Home →”, you’ll see the first word of your blog title. for most blogs, i figured it was close enough.

It was IE 6. I now have IE 7 and it is better.

I guess my blog title is just too long or I have too many pages.

This is a great tlooking theme thanks for letting people use it.
