this is one of those holidays i never grew up with because i wasn't catholic or lutheran. apparently fat tuesday is also the day that you eat pancakes for dinner. you know, in preparation for lent, where you don't eat milk or eggs for 40 days.
not that we're observing lent, being heathens and all. then again, we don't ever eat milk or eggs. although i suppose it's no worse than eating them at IHOP, since a) you're not using up your eggs and milk, and b) it's not like IHOP stops making pancakes during lent.
melanie and i made vegan apple pie pancakes from sarah kramer's books (i forget which one La Dolce Vegan). yes, i helped. the man with the cooking skills of a 4-year-old. melanie thinks i know what i'm doing with pancakes. personally, i find them terrifying. mainly because josh and i screwed up so many batches when i first moved out of my parents' house. but apparently i have learned a thing or two since then, since i was able to appropriately correct the recipe so that the pancakes were less ... runny. and i got them to flip properly, despite being full of apples. i'm kinda proud of myself. even though melanie did all the work, as usual.

It was La Dolce Vegan.
You did all the work, I just mixed some ingredients together.
I wish that we could eat pancakes for dinner every night.
we could just eat them for the next 40 days to be proper heathens
