current tune: opeth - face of melinda
the devil has finally responded to my repeated requests to exchange my eternal soul for a dishwasher.
we looked at two apartments last night. one In our building, a 1 bedroom with a bigger kitchen. the appliances were new, and much bigger than our current ones (but no dishwasher). thing is, the apartment was $925. lakeview is certainly more expensive than a lot of places, but that's pretty ridiculous. our entire old apartment, 2 bedrooms, 1000 sq. ft., was $900. this one was only 600 sq. ft. and it still had all the dorky small hallways between rooms. plus the walk in closet is in the living room. the architect for that building should be drawn and quartered.
the other apartment is a duplex in bucktown. we'll be sharing it with 2 friends, but we'll be on one floor, and they'll be on another. it includes the aforementioned dishwasher, as well as *FREE* in unit laundry. and the kitchen/living room are open plan. it seems a bit like a step backward, but it'll let us save, hopefully enough for A) a car. B) a house or a move to cali after a year or two. the thing with the car is that in bucktown you can actually park a car, unlike lakeview. so if we stayed here, we'd have to be able to afford the car and the house at the exact same time. the other financial advantage is that since we'll be staying in this apartment until the green card arrives, this will let us overlap the leases without too much financial strain.
in other news, the new opeth album comes out later this month. there's a song you can listen to on roadrunner's site. i considered buying it from sony's connect store for like a millisecond, since they claim it won't be on the album. anyway, it sounds to be more similar to their pre-deliverance stuff, so i'm super excited. not that i didn't like damnation, or that i would have heard of them if not for deliverance, but i think "still life" is their best album, with "blackwater park" second.
