free xbox shit

current tune king's x - goldilox
don't ask why i'm listening to king's x. it's tangentially related to the recent concert where alice in chains rejoined with maynard james keenan as the frontman. if anybody has those mp3's, let me know.
on to the title. this is something i mentioned in jon's brother's blog, but i thought was worthy of posting on it's own.
after ordering my free replacement xbox power cable for which i have no use, i put on my xbox media center extender and signed in to xbox live. apparently, they are doing update rollups for the mceforxbox just like they do for windows and office. which is good, although more annoying. the update downloads automatically, and then reconnects.
only it doesn't.
it gives me a new code to enter in my pc, and tells me to insert the setup disc (for the Media Center PC). so i go through setup, and enter the code, but the xbox and the media center go around in circles trying to connect to each other. being me, i pick up the phone, before completely uninstalling and reinstalling. i didn't really want to reinstall, since it takes a while for the xbox client (the MCX1 user) to rebuild its list of My Music. (over 6000 songs). so, xbox phone support transfers me to Microsoft's media center support, and the guy tells me to uninstall and reinstall. stupid. as my wife so snarkily put, "i could have told you that". the one good things was that he gave me a link to order an updated install cd for the Media Center PC. because apparently the update only updates the xbox. so while the xbox mce can now play all of my mp3's and supposedly some avi's now, the pc doesn't know how to send them correctly. der. but in 7-10 days, it should. of course, then i'll have to re-add my 6000 mp3's and whine s'more.
