current tune: alkaline trio - your neck
i went to fire up Softimage yesterday morning, and it failed before it even opened. so much for the version i bought working better than the.. er.. other versions i've used. at least, so i thought. i went to try to reinstall the program, and it informed me that i did not have an openGL capable video card. so, like any good little problem-solver, i installed the newest version of the FireGL 8800 driver off ATI's website. that let me reinstall XSI, which fixed the not starting problem. happy adam.
even better, the new driver enabled dual monitors! the windows version finally does what the linux version has done since i got the card! granted, it doesn't do it as well as the wildcat used to. the windows display panel still says "[multiple monitors] on ATI FireGL 8800". but in the advanced panel, the DualScreen tab finally does what it should. so as far as windows is concerned, i have 1 monitor that's 2560x1024.
not as elegant as having one desktop on two monitors, or the linux way (2 X11 servers), but it gets the job done. now back to why i wanted to open XSI in the first place, working on the graphic for the top of ben's blog

Thank you for going through all that trouble for little me. I didn’t know you had to do all that to make the graphic.
As far as your success in getting the program running, happy Adam = happy Ben.
heh, don’t worry about it. it’s trouble i would have had to go through anyway. gotta love random hardware problems. i’m surprised it didn’t affect my unreal playing.
That wouldn’t have been good. Hey, on my site I’ve got a link that says, “Title art by: K” Do you want that to link to your blog or your archgfx site?
i’d prefer archgfx.net, since that’s sort of my graphics/architecture/whatever site. i’m not terribly particular though.
