Dual Boot Linux 2.6 and Windows XP

so with all the hype surrounding SUSE 9.3, i decided that since i now have hard drive space to spare, i'd go ahead and install it. dual boot of course, since all of the TV wathing happens on the media center. no big deal, i thought, that's how most people play with linux, i've dual booted wondiows 2000 and windows ME before, and grub seems like a much more competent boot loader than the windows boot loader.

but of course, nothing is ever easy.

installing 9.3 was easy as hell. but afterwards, i couldn't boot into windows. technically, this is the solution. the problem is specific to NTFS and kernel 2.6, or at least the version of parted that goes with it. you will need the suse patch listed in the above article, but what's not obvious is you will also need the SUSE 9.1 personal CD from linuxiso.org. the 9.3 install disks won't recognize the patch during the install process, and the patch spits you out into a menu that only works with an automatic installation. the ftp version is referred to as manual installation.
