1. The Holiday spirit was long dead before i got to it. My office is having a 'secret santa' gift exchange. our office has 3 studios, with very little cross-pollenation between them. so, i don't really know the person i'm supposed to by for. the HR lady told me not to worry, pretty much everyone's in the same position, and most people just give best buy gift cards. melanie and i both joked about that when i told her about it. why not just take a $20 gift card out of everyone's paycheck, and distribute them at the christmas party? then you could at least do it pre-tax!
2. yesterday while i was coming back from lunch, i scampered across lasalle street while the light was changing, only to break the buckle and strap on my shoe. with one end still attached, the strap flapped against my shoe the rest of the way back to the office. not the end of the world, i figured, it's not like i do anything more than sit at a desk all day. wrong, of course. my boss decides to send me out to take pictures of the rock n' roll mcdonalds later. so i taped down the free end of the strap. now my shoes look like i'm that nerdy kid from high school.
3. a few days ago kim (one of my coworkers) came over to my desk, picked up my minidisc player and asked if it was my camera. i restrained myself from laughing out loud, and responded that no, my wife had the camera that day. apparently she's interested in getting a camera, and asked what kind of camera i had and if i liked it. of course i love the sony dsc-w1 we have, but with sony's recent jackassery (involving rootkits) i have a hard time recommending that someone buy something of theirs.

You should tell her to get a Canon Powershot, then when she asks which one point her to DPreview so that she can decide which one best fits her needs.
ooo, that is pretty cool.
i guess i’m prejudiced against canons because the old ones (like i used to have, and like i used for the rock n’ roll mcdonalds) had the stupid “close the shutter to turn off” machanism.
…and in case we thought that point #1 was too far out there, i recieved this email today:
