The Wifest has a good point. i'm copying this from her:
- The average north american woman is 5' 4-1/8"
- The average American woman spends over 3x as much time preparing food and cleaning up as the average American man.
- standard kitchen upper cabinets top out at between 6' 6" and 7'-6"
Ours top out at 7'-0", because we have 24" between upper and lower (as opposed to the standard 18")
ANSI writes specifications for every manner of human-architecture interaction. It's what the ADA is based on. but somehow this has slipped their notice. Her rant especially struck me after designing mailboxes for he elgin project, because the regulations don't allow any box below 30" or above 72".

Though we’ve never actualy taken any measurements Bethany and I have noticed a discrepancy in height too.
I have to go get a spaghetti fork like my mom has to pull stuff down from the cupboards and jab it back up.
Or, you know, stop being scared of heights so I can use a stepstool.
It’s one of the reasons I miss Nick living at home…he would always get the stuff down from the top shelves for me.
Yeah, my roommate always yells “Clara, come be tall!” when she can’t reach things, and being almost 6′ I feel honor bound to comply.
