current tune: tegan and sara - we didn't do it
the new tegan and sara is really awesome. i can't wait to see them at lollapalooza.
anyways, the picture.
chicago is dead. architecturally. sure, there are some really great projects, and some architects doing really amazing work. but it's mold on the corpse, not evidence of life within. the construction business in chicago is crippled by short sighted developers who think that people won't want to live in a building that looks like it's been designed by an architect more recent than the turn of the last century. those chicago architects who do interesting work do it for clients outside of the norm, and do it in circumstances where beaurocratic input is stifled or removed.
i don't know what about california is different, but every building there is worth looking at. i don't know what the culture shift in the construction industry is, but i want to find out.
