current tune: minux the bear - absynthe party at the fly honey warehouse

i'm home sick otday, which normally sucks lots. especially being all joint achy and full of snot. but i have the most wonderful wife EVAR taking care of me, fetching me chicken soup, and snuggling me all day. so it's pretty awesome. since talking kind of hurts, as does leaving the bed, i decided to take notsteve'sadvice and try to install the new ati linux drivers (3.12.0) on my SUSE linux box, since suse's modified drivers weren't letting me play ut2004 with this error: Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0" i still get that error, but ut2004 plays fine.

The deal is, 3.12 does support 2.6, but you don't follow ati's instructions. here are my own:

step 1:

rpm -Uhv --force fglrx-4.3.0-3.12.0.rpm

step 2

cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/2.6.x/

make

step 3

cd ../

sh ./make.sh

step 4

cd ../

sh ./make_install.sh

step 5

fglrxconfig

that worked for me. the make in the 2.6.x directory creates the symlink:

/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/fglrx.ko ->2.6.x/fglrx.ko

i don't know if this will be everything you need, though, since i used

SUSE's drivers last time, which required the use of the patch i

posted below, as well as their two custom fglrx rpm's,

which are linked below. so, basically i was installing on top of

those.

i don't remember, i think the order with those was

1: km_fglrx-3.7.6-28.1.i586.rpm

2: fglrx-2.6.7.patch (in the lib/modules/build_mod directory)

3. fglrx-3.7.6-28.1.i586.rpm

but i'm not positive. there's a bunch of tutorials online, if you

need them, i can try to find them.

note: this is on kernel 2.6.4-52 SMP
